Stepnell is forecasting further growth this year after lifting turnover by a third and nearly tripling profit.
The family-owned Rugby contractor saw turnover rise to £150m in the year to March 2026 from £113m last time.
Pre-tax profit climbed to £2.8m from £1m, while cash in the business rose sharply to £21m.
Chief executive Tom Wakeford said: “We are pleased with our significantly improved performance in difficult market conditions, notably the increase in profitability and cash.
“This provides a solid foundation for the company going forward. In the current year, the business is on track to deliver a further 20% increase to our turnover, driven by client demand from the performance of our teams, extending geography, and staying true to careful project selectivity.”
Wakeford and his immediate family took full control of Stepnell Group last September following completion of a corporate shareholder demerger.
The contractor remains active in healthcare, education and residential work through national and regional frameworks.
Current jobs include schemes for the housing association arm of Bristol City Council and two projects under the Sovereign Housing Association framework.
Stepnell said 75% of its workload now comes from repeat clients, while more than 70% remains in the public sector.
Stepnell is continuing its regional expansion after opening new offices in Liverpool and Exeter to grow its reach across the North West and south of England.
