Mace Construct undergoes leadership shakeup after demerger

Mace Construct has announced a series of leadership and board changes as part of its long-term growth strategy.

Head of construction technical services, Paul Connolly will become director of technology at Mace Construct and will oversee the data centre division, while reporting to Rob Lemming.

Managing director of technology, Alister Grey will step down in the summer having worked at Mace since 2016, including on Battersea Power Station and multiple data centre projects across Europe.

Mace Group CEO, Jason Millett thanked Grey for his service and in shaping and operating Mace Construct’s data centre offering.

Meanwhile, Mace Construct’s Interiors business will be overseen by Gavin Seager, managing director of Specialist Services.

The Interiors team will focus on delivering pure Cat A and B commercial fitout projects in London.

The changes follow the carve‑out of Mace Consult from Mace Group earlier this year, establishing Mace Construct as a standalone construction business shortly after the latter went from five business units to three, spanning commercial; public sector, science and technology; and infrastructure.

Since then, Mace Construct has secured a strong pipeline of work, with more than 75 per cent with repeat clients.

“These changes reflect the next step in our long‑term plan to build a more resilient, focused and future‑ready Mace Construct,” said Millett.

“As a standalone company, we have taken the time to reset and refocus parts of our business and are sharpening our strategic direction, strengthening our leadership through internal promotions, and ensuring we continue to deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients.”

Elsewhere in the group, non-executive directors Nina Bjornstad and John Holland Kaye have made the decision to step down from the Mace Group Board to focus on other commitments.

Kaye was appointed chairman of Sizewell C in February 2025 and chairman of Cadent Gas in February this year. He joined the group Board when it was established and sat on the Safety & Responsible Business Committee, and the People & Renumeration Committee alongside Bjornstad who also served as its chairperson.

Bjornstad, an original Mace Advisory Board member, joined the Group Board in January last year.

She was appointed to the Etraveli Group Board, the fintech specialist, in January.

Sylvia Metayer will replace Bjornstad as chairperson of the People & Renumeration Committee.

Mace Consult, helmed by CEO Davendra Dabasia, recently became an independent business following a demerger from Mace Group and a majority investment from Goldman Sachs Alternatives.
