Scottish labour supplier acquires English stronghold amid rising construction demand

Construction labour supplier, C&P Recruitment has acquired Hertfordshire-based Clarke Bridges Resourcing, as it seeks to capitalise on rising demand in the sector.

Edinburgh-headquartered C&P, which supplies skilled workers for construction, engineering, and infrastructure projects, did not disclose the acquisition sum.

Clarke Bridges, which has focused on permanent recruitment for Tier One contractors, such as Balfour Beatty, in civil engineering and construction for nearly two decades, adds specialist capability and a network of clients and candidates across the UK.

The move is part of C&P’s strategy to broaden its UK presence and enhance service offerings.

It comes as C&P reported a 21 per cent revenue increase to £10 million, alongside a 12.5 per cent rise in temporary placements and a five per cent boost in permanent recruitment over the past financial year.

Growth has been driven by strong demand in housing, infrastructure, and renewables, particularly in the Highlands, where civil engineering activity is accelerating as long-term projects begin to scale.

The acquisition positions C&P to meet ongoing skills shortages in the sector and capitalise on a sustained pipeline of infrastructure and energy projects over the next five to 10 years.

This has been a strong year for us, particularly given the wider challenges across construction and the economy,” said C&P Recruitment managing director, Donald Wynn.

“We’ve built this business on relationships and reputation over the past 22 years, and this next phase is about scaling that.

“[It’s about] bringing in the right people, expanding our reach, and continuing to support careers across the industry.

John Clarke, director of Clarke Bridges added: “Having focused predominantly on permanent recruitment for Tier One contracting in the civil engineering and construction sector for almost 20 years, the merger of Clarke Bridges Resourcing with C&P Recruitment significantly expands our offering to both clients and candidates alike, and it is a journey that we are very much looking forward to.”

Founded in 2004 as a family-run business, C&P operates across Scotland with offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Inverness, alongside its already established England office in Newcastle.
