Long-standing employee, Barry Dodd will oversee a business with revenue forecasted to reach £110 million this year.

Dodd, who joined PJ Hegarty in 1998, helped to start and scale the UK division from its founding in 2010.

With a focus on the civil engineering and industrial markets, projects include HS2, Sizewell C and Gatwick Airport, as well as large, private works for the pharmaceutical industry.

Speaking to his new role, Dodd said: “Having been part of PJ Hegarty for more than 25 years and involved in the growth of our UK business since its launch in 2010, it is a real privilege to take on the role of managing director for PJ Hegarty UK.

“We have built a strong reputation in the market by delivering complex projects safely, collaboratively and to a high standard.

“My focus now is on supporting our people, strengthening our client relationships, and continuing to grow the business in a way that reflects the values and ambition of PJ Hegarty.”

The wider group, founded by Patrick Joseph Hegarty in 1925 as a small store on Meade Street in Cork, today spans large-scale construction, with operations in the UK and Ireland and turnover of more than €500 million last year.

Key markets for PJ Hegarty include aviation, civils, EFW, industrial, pharma, renewable energy and waste management as well as specialist markets.

One of its largest UK contracts to date is pumping stations in the West Midlands for HS2, between Birmingham and Coventry.

Last year, the group celebrated its 100th anniversary and appointed Maurice Killeen as MD for Ireland.

Dodd’s promotion follows the appointment of Callum Baines as UK regional director in April, having joined PJ Hegarty in 2019.
