Laing O’Rourke has bid a fond farewell to its procurement leader, who retires after an “exceptional” four decade career with the engineering and construction giant.

Mark Fowler began his career with the firm in 1983 and has been responsible for governance and assurance, and processes and procedures within the procurement function.
In a post on social media, the company said: “We’re wishing Mark Fowler a happy retirement today after an exceptional 42 year career with our UK business.”
Adam Crompton, Europe hub procurement leader, said Fowler’s leadership influenced many people throughout the business and that it was a pleasure to learn from him.
Simon Chatwin, Europe director of commercial, procurement, planning and estimating added: “Mark is a beacon of excellence in the procurement function who has coached and mentored many of our procurement staff during his considerable career.
“Mark will be missed and I thank him so much for his contribution over an impressive 42 years here.”
Throughout his career, Fowler supported Laing O’Rourke with its supply chain and has worked on a number of high profile projects having held various leadership roles.

In its last annual report, Laing O’Rourke delivered a pre-tax profit of £41.5 million, up from £18.1 million in the prior period, underpinned by stable group revenue of close to £4 billion (FY2024: approx. £4 billion) and an improved pre-exceptional gross margin of 6.9 per cent.
Additionally, the construction giant increased its net asset value from £201 million in 2024 to £218.7 million this year, supported by an improved net cash position of £284.7 million (FY2024: £278.5 million).
Laing O’Rourke ended the financial period atop a record order book worth £11.9 billion, up from £10.8 billion in the previous trading period.
