Knights Brown hits top-line milestone on core sector demand

Hampshire-headquartered Knights Brown has achieved a new high in revenue, underpinned by “strong” demand across its core sectors of coasts and ports, energy, and water.

The UK civil engineering and construction company posted record turnover of £136.2 million for the year ended 31 March 2026, up 17 per cent from £116.4 million the previous year.

Profitability also strengthened, with operating and pre-tax profit both increasing by more than 50 per cent to £4.4 million and £4.6 million, respectively.

Backed by an increase in operating margin to 3.2 per cent from 2.4 per cent, Knights Brown strengthened its balance sheet.

Net assets rose to £5.3 million, while year-end cash stood at £12.6 million, providing a solid foundation for continued growth and investment.

The contractor, which recently restructured into four divisions – Energy and Water, Coasts and Ports, Infrastructure, and Building Projects – delivered key schemes across coastal defence, marine infrastructure, grid and renewable energy projects, and water sector frameworks.

Notable projects include wind turbines and supporting infrastructure at Dragon Energy Park in Milford Haven, Phase 1 works on the Eccles II Battery Energy Storage System in the Scottish Borders with Tesla, a £29.4 million Poole Bridge to Hunger Hill flood defence scheme, and civil works for Twyn Hywel Energy Park in Wales.

Group managing director Kevin Valentine described it as “another very strong year”.

“We’ve remained focused on the markets where we can add real value, particularly in coasts & ports, energy and water, and that clarity is translating into both growth and improved performance,” said Valentine.

“Just as importantly, we’ve strengthened the foundations of the business, from our financial position to the way we’re structured to deliver for clients. That puts us in a great position to continue building momentum in the year ahead.”

Looking ahead, the 350-strong firm, which operates across southern England, Wales, and the UK energy network, has already secured more than half of its budgeted turnover.

A “substantial” pipeline of work and recent framework wins are expected to support further growth.

This demand led Knights Brown to open a new Norwich office earlier this year, serving as a regional hub for its growing Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team, which now exceeds 150 staff.
