Jacobs posts revenue growth as CMS spin-off reshapes profits

Engineering and technical services firm Jacobs UK reported higher revenue in FY2025, although profits fell following the separation of its government and defence-focused Critical Mission Solutions (CMS) business.

For the year ended 26 September 2025, revenue rose 8.4 per cent to £763.8 million (FY2024: £704.4 million), while pre-tax profit fell 39.3 per cent to £111.7 million from £184.1 million a year earlier.

The drop in profit primarily reflects the spin-off of CMS business, which was combined with Amentum in September 2024 through a Reverse Morris Trust transaction, a structure designed to enable a tax-efficient business separation.

The business is now reported as a discontinued operation.

Despite lower headline profits, the company increased operating profit, strengthened its balance sheet and continued to grow across the UK’s infrastructure, water, transport and energy sectors.

Cash rose to £134.9 million from £117.7 million, while net assets increased to £337 million from £258.1 million.

Jacobs continues to deliver major infrastructure projects including HS2 and Thames Tideway, alongside long-term frameworks with clients such as National Highways, Network Rail and the Environment Agency.

The company said its Water and Environment division remains well positioned for growth, supported by AMP8 investment plans and ongoing work for United Utilities, Anglian Water and Northumbrian Water.

It added that transport, aviation, and energy markets continue to provide opportunities, with projects progressing across HS2, Thames Tideway and the Lower Thames Crossing.

“We continue to execute projects and secure new work in the energy market, with National Grid remaining a major client,” said bosses.

“Delivery progresses across several of the UK’s major programmes, including Thames Tideway, HS2 and the Lower Thames Crossing, and support for Local Authorities remains resilient despite market pressures.”

Recent contract wins include a place on Yorkshire Water’s £32 million artificial intelligence services framework and appointments to multiple frameworks for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks with a combined potential value of more than $1 billion – around £750 million.

The group has also expanded its regional footprint with the opening of a new office at Aire Park in Leeds, supporting its growing operations across West Yorkshire and the North of England.
