Burchell, who started his career with Groundforce in 1998 as a yard labourer and driver, has nearly 30 years of experience in the construction services industry.

Throughout his career, Burchell progressed through various roles, including project manager and commercial manager, overseeing major projects like the award-winning Red Line Metro system in Qatar.

Nine years ago, he moved to Groundforce’s Piletec division, where he served as general sales manager, operations director, and later, piling director, before briefly joining Aarsleff Ground Engineering as plant director.

In his new role, Burchell will unify Groundforce’s global major projects division, drive innovation, and ensure the company remains a key partner for excavation solutions.

He said: “My vision is clear – to grow the business, embrace complexity and drive innovation, ensuring that Groundforce remains the industry’s preferred partner for excavation support solutions at home and abroad.

“By pushing boundaries and setting new standards, we will further strengthen Groundforce’s position as the go-to partner for complex major projects globally.

Last year, Warren Buckland was appointed managing director of Groundforce, having previously served as interim MD and overseen several specialist divisions at the company.

Vp plc, the construction equipment specialist and parent group of Groundforce, reported in its latest financial update that subdued activity in the construction and water markets has led to a revised profit forecast of between £26 million and £29 million.

Last year, it announced the closure of over 60 branches within its Brandon Hire Station division, leading to 400 job losses and marking the end of its consumer-facing operations in the retail and DIY construction sectors.

This decision, which followed declining profits, is part of a strategic shift to refocus the company on its core rental divisions, such as Groundforce and TPA, in an effort to stabilise and improve group profitability.
