Sam White joins from Costain, where his most recent role was managing director (MD) of natural resources.

He has more than 25 years’ experience in complex engineering and technical projects, previously holding senior executive roles at Babcock International and BAE Systems.

White will take up his new role as MD of Mitie’s Technical Services business on 1 December 2025, which is a major provider of engineering maintenance services to both the public and private sectors, and employs 16,000 people.

Key customers include Heathrow, BAE, Ministry of Defence, National Grid, the NHS, and GSK.

White said: “Mitie’s focus on innovation, technology investment and creating opportunities for colleagues creates a strong foundation for growth.

“I look forward to collaborating with the talented teams across the wider Mitie Group to deliver high-impact, customer-focused solutions that drive performance and long-term value.”

In its latest trading update, Mitie upgraded its FY2026 operating profit forecast to at least £260 million (FY2025: £234 million), while its revenue rose to £2.7 billion, compared to £2.4 billion in HY1 2025.

This includes 6.1 per cent organic growth, fuelled by new contract wins, scope increases, and higher project volumes across sectors like defence, healthcare, and local government.

Mitie also launched a £100 million share buyback programme, bringing total buybacks since FY2023 to £303 million, adding it would maintain its progressive dividend payout ratio of between 30-40 per cent, while also pursuing M&A opportunities.

Closing net debt at 30 September 2025 stood at £475 million, up £276 million from FY2025, primarily due to the Marlowe acquisition and shareholder returns.

Chief executive, Phil Bentley, said: “Sam’s extensive experience and proven leadership in complex engineering environments will be instrumental as we continue to drive engineering excellence and transform the UK’s built environment to shape the future of high performing places.”
