Amey has strengthened its consulting leadership team with two new appointments, marking the next stage in the firm’s expansion across transport, utilities and residential sectors.

Gert Vermeiren has taken on the role of sector director for engineering, having previously worked at AECOM for 11 years.
At AECOM he held various positions, the most recent being managing director, environment and energy for the UK and Ireland, Europe, and India, where he led businesses across water, transport and infrastructure delivery.
Vermeiren also held the same role at URS Corporation, between 2000-2014, starting as team leader, then rising up the ranks to MD for different regions.
He said he was delighted to be joining Amey, adding: “There is a clear ambition for the future, and I look forward to working with colleagues across the business to strengthen our engineering capability, support clients, and drive the next phase of growth.”
In addition to Vermeiren, Stephen Knott rejoins Amey as chief operating director after four years as business director for strategic highways within the company’s transport arm.
He said: “I am excited to be rejoining Amey’s consulting business at a time of strong ambition and growth.
“The strength and breadth of our consulting service delivery and client relationships provide a strong platform as we focus on turning strategy into action, drawing on our One Amey expertise to support both our current and future clients.”

Throughout his tenure, Knott oversaw major operational contracts and bolstered the firm’s relationship with National Highways, helping to scale Amey to £200 million.
Colin Wood, consulting managing director for Amey, welcomed the men, adding: ”This latest announcement builds on recent leadership investment in Amey’s consulting business, including a series of senior advisory appointments to support clients facing complex infrastructure and climate challenges.
“These appointments strengthen the consulting business’s role at the centre of Amey’s growth ambitions, sharpening its strategic focus and enabling expansion across key sectors and international markets.”
