AmcoGiffen order book tops £255m after softer revenues in 2025

AmcoGiffen has seen a slight dip in revenue and profits, but its strong £255 million order book and ongoing high-demand projects in rail, aviation, and infrastructure offer a promising outlook for future growth.

For the year ended 30 September 2025, turnover decreased by 4.8 per cent to £339.8 million, down from £357.2 million in the previous year, reflecting tighter margins and a challenging market.

Pre-tax profit dropped by a quarter from £25.6 million to £19.2 million.

Other key figures include operating profit (FY2025: £19.2 million; FY2024: £25.6 million), cash (FY2025: £44.9 million; FY2024 £57.6 million), and net assets (FY2025: £22.9 million; FY2024: £23 million).

Despite the challenges, the Yorkshire-headquartered company returned an interim dividend of £15 million to shareholders, consistent with the previous year, and remains optimistic about future growth.

A highlight was its £255 million secured order book (FY2024: £286 million) and ongoing high-demand projects in rail and aviation, including a viaduct project in Yarm, station maintenance in Keighley, and airport works in Manchester, and Leeds Bradford.

During the year, AmcoGiffen refined its procurement and supply chain strategy, consolidating spend with fewer strategic partners, improving visibility, reducing risks, and enhancing commercial performance, all of which contributed to stronger margins and several major framework wins, including for the TransPennine Route Upgrade (TRU) with Amey.

Now looking ahead, the company is targeting annual growth of six to eight per cent in the rail and infrastructure sectors, leveraging its client base and delivery capabilities.

Bosses said: “By consolidating our spend with fewer, more strategic partners, we have gained a clearer understanding of the pressures and dependencies within our supply base, enabling earlier intervention, improved resilience and stronger commercial alignment.

“This consolidation has also delivered tangible commercial benefits.

“By leveraging increased volumes through trusted suppliers, we have enhanced our rebate yield and unlocked economies of scale, directly contributing to improved margins across our renewals and maintenance programmes.”

Originally founded in 1970 as Amalgamated Construction (AMCO), the company underwent a transformation after being acquired by Renew Holdings, a UK-based engineering services group.

In 2011, Renew first acquired AMCO for £26.9 million, followed by Giffen Group in 2016 for £7 million, merging them into AmcoGiffen in 2018.

This rebranding integrated AMCO’s expertise in civil engineering and rail with Giffen’s capabilities in electrical and power services.

Operating under Renew, AmcoGiffen has become a multi-disciplinary engineering firm specialising in the rail, energy, environmental, and infrastructure sectors.
